Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio (AHDRO)'s mission is to provide homeless Collies and other family-friendly dogs a safe haven where they will receive medical care, nutrition, and love until an approved home is found; to reduce the number of unwanted pets by altering all dogs in our rehoming program; to educate the public about the importance of altering pets, and to promote the message that owning a pet is a lifelong commitment.
At the left is Hannah Rose, a ten-year-old purebred, sable-colored female beauty. She lived most of her life in a 4x4 cage at a puppy mill. When rescued she had worms, was filthy, and had bad teeth. She is doing very well now, and loves people, soaking up every second of attention that she can get. Hannah Rose is quite the cuddler and is learning how to interact with other dogs. She is good with children and has already learned basic commands, including "no" and "lie down." Hannah Rose loves to be brushed and rides well in the car. Hannah Rose lived like a farm animal, and until placement with her foster family she never knew the warmth and comfort of a clean, safe home. She has had to learn to eat from a bowl, and she is coming out of her shell and learning to enjoy things like rawhide bones. Hannah Rose can safely be left home alone without being crated. Her foster family says it has been wonderful to see the change in her personality as she learns to enjoy life. The adoption contribution for Rosie is $175. Portage County Dog Pound
ALL of the dogs at this shelter have only days to live and need to be saved DESPERATELY!!! The Portage County Dog Pound is a county animal control facility that picks up stray dogs and holds them for three days to allow an owner to claim before releasing them for adoption. The staff is forced to humanely euthanize any animals that aren't/can't be adopted/rescued two times per week due to the overwhelming number of dogs and the limited amount of space at the shelter. Be sure to ask to see all the seniors, even if the shelter has pre-determined that "no one would want such an old dog."
