Delaware, Maryland, & Washington, DC -- Dogs Available for Adoption
Name: Zipper
Mix/Breed: Lab mix
Sex/Age/Weight: Female, 8 years, 45 lbs.
Health: Spayed. Up to date on shots. Heartworm Negative
History/Personality: Zipper is approximately 8 years old but you would never know it -she still has lots of energy & lots of love to give! Zipper was turned into a shelter by her family because she "barks too much"! We have not heard her utter a peep yet & can only surmise that it was because she crated away from her family & she wanted to be with them (she wasn't allowed in the living room). Zipper is a good girl - 110% housebroken & although she is crate trained she is also completely trustworthy when loose in the house. Zipper gets along great with other dogs & is friendly with everyone she meets. She gets a little anxious when taken in the car - maybe she didn't get to go on trips with her former family. She does enjoy walks & would benefit from short car rides to fun places.

Name: Copper
Mix/Breed: Collie/Golder Retriever mix
Sex/Age/Weight: Male, 7 years, 45 lbs.
Health: Neutered. Up to date on shots. Heartworm Negative
History/Personality: Copper is the product of divorce and was given up when neither party could take him with them. He is approx 7 yrs old but a previous injury makes him look older. At one time Copper fell out of the back of a pickup truck and injured his right shoulder. He still walks with a limp. We had his leg x-rayed in the hopes that it could be repaired but the report came back "within normal limits" with nothing broken. The vet says Copper suffered nerve damage or radial paralysis. The good news is that it does not cause him any pain, just makes him walk with a limp. Copper has learned to live with his lame leg though & enjoys life. He has no problem going up & down stairs & will even offer his lame paw for a shake. He is very sweet & loves everyone - people, cats & other dogs. He loves to be outside & would enjoy a sunny porch to sit on. Can you give Copper the loving retirement home he deserves?

My name is Rosie and I want to become a part of your home! I am a German Shepherd mix (60 lbs.), around 6 years old. I am perfectly house trained and will be an excellent protector of you and your home in return for regular belly rubs. My parents recently had a baby and I am a little jealous and don't like her much. I would be perfect for any adult household or home with older children (just not babies!). I am very neutral to other animals and would do well with or without animal siblings. I am current on all of my vaccinations, have no health problems, and am spayed. I promise you won't regret having me as a member of your family!! Please call my dad (Jason) for more information. 404-229-4216
Skinny and Pinch
Mix/Breed: Miniature Pinschers
Sex/Age/Weight: Males, 8 years old, 13 lbs.
Health: Up to date on shots. For additional health information, contact the agency listed below.
History/Personality: Skinny and Pinch were turned into the shelter because their "parent" is on house arrest and had no one to walk these boys. These two red boys are related -- we believe perhaps father and son
or brothers and have been together all their lives. The boys are very friendly, and like all min pins love attention. They are active fortheir age, but are past the puppy stage and being extremely busy like younger min pins. As with most min pins, the shelter is a scary noise place for these little guys and they would love nothing better than having their own family. Min Pins are known to live for 13 to 15 years, so these guys still have a lot of love to give. Please, someone make their 2006 a better year!

Name: Poncho
Mix/Breed: Shih tzu
Sex/Age/Weight: Male, 12+ years, 11 lbs.
Health: Up to date on shots. Poncho does have a grade 4 heart murmer but it does not seem to affect him at this time. He is not neutered because of his heart murmer. We do not want to take the chance of putting him under for surgery.
History/Personality: Poncho is a sweet sweet boy. We are unsure of his actual age but he we believe he is over 12 yrs old. He is adorable. His guardian passed away and poor poncho was banished to the basement. His guardian's husband was unable to care for him so they surrendered him to us. He does have some hair loss which the vet says is just caused by age. He is still a spunky, active boy who just wants his own home. He is good with other dogs and cats. You can't help but fall in love with this guy. He is just looking for a retirement home that will give him all the love he has missed out on since his guardian passed away.

Name: Rags
Mix/Breed: Poodle mix
Sex/Age/Weight: Female, 7-8 years, 14 lbs.
Health: Spayed. Up to date on shots. For additional health information, contact the agency listed below.
History/Personality: Rags is a delight. She is mostly gray with white highlights. She is a mature adult, yet still has spunk and a zest for life. She loves to cuddle and is extremely affectionate! She is not particularly friendly with other dogs, but gets along with cats. She is crate trained and "mostly" housetrained. A great dog for an easy-going household, or a senior, or just anyone who desires a loyal companion. A nicer four-legged companion would be hard to find.

Tessie is a Border Collie/Lab mix, approx 65 lbs and 7-8 years old. She is a wonderfully calm, loyal dog who wants to be by your side. Tessie has impeccable house manners and enjoys outside time in a fenced yard. She can be a little grumpy with "strange" dogs but will get along after a slow introduction. She loves to play with a 7-year-old Lab mix in her foster home. Tessie is also currently living with with inside cats and occasionally needs to be reminded not to herd them. She gets along with the kids in her foster home (10 & 12) but we recommend a home without very young children. Tess knows some basic commands and loves to go for walks; she dances when you get a leash out. LOVES to ride in the car! A wonderful companion! Call 410-392-2269 or E-mail companimals@earthlink.net for application or more info.
