Illinois & Wisconsin -- Dogs Available for Adoption

Name: Petey
Mix/Breed: Am-Staff mix
Sex/Age/Weight: Male, about 9 years, 70lbs
Health: Neutered. Up to date on shots incl. rabies, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventative. For additional health information, please contact us.
History/Personality: The smiling breed with picture as proof! A puppy stuck in a big dog's body, Petey is so typical of the silliness and at times happy clumsiness of the staffie. Ecstatic when he can make you smile, exhilarated when you laugh and of course he joins right in with a smile ear to ear! A people's dog, he lived with two small kids (one and three years old). He doesn't need any dog or cat to keep him company and he can easily handle kisses for a whole family. He is also a firm believer that laps have been created for the big Staffy heads, they always fit just perfectly in. His prior family mentioned that he also knows some commands and tricks.
Adoption Fee: $125.00, Senior for Senior (person 55 years and older adopting a dog 7 years or older) adoption fee is $25.
Agency/Location/Contact info: www.save-a-pet-il.org, Grayslake, Illinois. Telephone: (847) 740-7788, ext. 100. E-mail: information@save-a-pet-il.org
Name: Hope
Mix/Breed: Fox Hound mix (best guess)
Sex/Age/Weight: Female, 10 years, 50 lbs.
Health: Spayed. Up to date on shots incl. rabies, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventative. For additional health information, please contact us.
History/Personality: Adopted as a puppy, Hope was in a home with two small kids and was said to be just adorable and very gentle with them. Unfortunately, she was returned for not being good with other animals. She had two more homes and each time, even though they knew about her dislike for other dogs, decided to return her for that very reason. Hope would be very happy with a little, fenced-in yard, a baby pool that she would willingly share with the kids or grand-kids and some super sweet people. While she might look like an active dog, she is really at heart a mellow one: a short game of tug of war, maybe a little bit of fetching, but really what she lives for is people' s attention and belly rubs. So if you only want one dog and are willing to receive love as if you had a whole pack of dogs, then Hope is your girl.

Name: Snoopy
Mix/Breed: Hound/Rottweiler
Sex/Age/Weight: Female; 10 years old; 72 pounds
Health: Spayed. Up to date on shots. For additional health information, contact the agency listed below.
History/Personality: FRIENDS FOR LIFE candidate: If you are 65 years of age or older and adopt Snoopy, we will waive the adoption fee! After having lived in her current home for the past eight years, this sweet and gentle senior citizen is now homeless as a result of her guardians' divorce. Snoopy would be an excellent choice for someone looking for a calm, well-mannered, and housetrained dog. Though she has more than a few years under her collar, she is by no means just a couch potato. She still enjoys a game a Frisbee, and likes to go for long walks. She especially delights in rolling in the grass on warm, sunny days, but also enjoys long naps lying contently at your feet at the end of a long day. Snoopy has lived harmoniously with other dogs, and may be fine placed with children as young as five years of age. She greets people politely, knows basic commands, and is well-behaved when riding in the car. Snoopy is looking for a kind, tender-hearted person who realizes that large-breed senior citizens need love, too. Adopt her, and we guarantee she will return your love a thousand times over.

Sex/Age/Weight: Female, 5+ years, 60 lbs.
Health: Up to date on shots. For additional health information, contact the agency listed below.
History/Personality: Cheri is a wonderful loving girl. She was a stray on her last days at the shelter. Cheri is a special needs girl and we are looking for someone who will give this wonderful dog a forever home. She should live a long, normal life span with proper care. Cheri would be a wonderful companion to children or the elderly and would also probably be good with a gentle male dog; she's a gentle, sweet soul. She loves to ride in the car and generally just enjoys life. Her life has not been an easy one, but she is ready to forget all that and move on to a new, loving home and family.

Sex/Age/Weight: Female, 6 years, 65 lbs.
Health: Up to date on shots.Heartworm negative. For additional health information, contact the agency listed below.
History/Personality: Reno is a very sweet, well behaved girl. She loves attention and walks. She is very active and loves to play. Reno came to us very neglected and abused. She is amazing because even with the past history she has a loving, forgiving nature. Reno would accept a male companion that is not alpha. She is not a good choice to be with cats as she has a high prey drive. She rides well in a car and would love a forever home where she would be loved and cared for. She would do well with children 5 and older.

Palatine Young At Heart Pet Rescue was formed in 2005 to aid in the rescue and rehoming of older dogs and cats in the Chicagoland area. 100% of the animals we rescue come from municipal pounds with high euthanasia rates for older animals. Our mission is to find a new home for every adoptable older animal that comes through our door, to educate the public on the benefits of adopting older pets, and to decrease the euthanasia rate for older, adoptable dogs and cats in Illinois. Each dog or cat that we rescue receives the best veterinary care, and we do not turn away animals that need a little extra medical attention. All of our pets are vaccinated, tested for infectious diseases, are microchipped, spay/neutered, and the majority receive a geriatric screening and a dental. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with an all-volunteer staff, so all donations go directly to the care of our animals. It also means that we rely on the generosity of pet-lovers to support our mission and our rescued animals.
